WHO IS STARLIGHT?

Hi I’m Becky and I am the principal of Starlight Dance School. I started Starlight with only 25 students in 2012 and purely by word of mouth the dance family has grown to include nearly 200 dancers from the age of 3 up to 21. My dream has always been to teach dance and share my passion with our students and that’s what Starlight is all about; a passion for dance. With over 20 years of experience of running classes in a variety of dance styles, choreographing routines for shows and competitions, and expanding my own knowledge with workshops all over the world, I’m so happy to be able to offer such a variety of classes to so many dancers.

As a school we support and encourage each other and I feel this makes us unique. We have fun and laugh through our lessons, whilst pushing each other to be the best that we can be. We firmly believe that all dancing should be fun and this healthy atmosphere makes us all work as hard as we can to achieve the best possible results for each and every dancer, no matter their ability.

For the third year running, we were delighted to be recognised as one of the top three dance schools in Trafford, which I feel reflects the ethos of Starlight as a fun, friendly family of dancers.

I really hope that you feel this school might be the right place for you. We would love to invite you to come along for a free trial where you will get the warmest of welcomes. To find out more about the classes drop me a line below.

MEET THE TEAM

BECKY – LEAD INSTRUCTOR

“The best teachers never stop learning.”

Becky started dance when she was only 3 years old, training in various styles until she went on to a Professional Dancers and Dance Teachers Course at the age of 18. Since then she has continued her training in Dublin, Australia, doing workshops on Broadway in New York,

Over the years she has danced in many performances, but at the age of 13 she found her true passion and that was teaching dance.

Becky’s passion comes across in all of her classes with her high energy and enthusiasm, which are a good balance of fun whilst maintaining the training to a high level. This means that Starlight is well suited to all ages and abilities. Those that want to dance and enjoy classes with their friends, and those that want to perform and compete, with the possibility of taking it to a career one day.

Becky says, “The best teachers never stop learning, so I continue to take class myself to make sure that I’m passing on the very best to our students. They’ve made my dreams come true by joining the “Starlight Family” meaning that I can do my dream job, so I want to do the very best by them and provide the highest level training that I can.”

KIRSTY – INSTRUCTOR

“Steps make the dance, but passion makes you a dancer”

Kirsty started dancing at the tender age of 3, in fact her first ever ballet class was spent with a dummy in her mouth!
Her love for dance was born that day, and she carried on dancing into her twenties. Over the years Kirsty has performed in countless dance school shows, local amateur dramatics shows, professional pantomimes, a TV show and even a Butlins Red Coat show when she was 4 years old!

Training under the NATD syllabus, Kirsty passed senior exams in Ballet, Tap and Modern all graded with distinction, and was welcomed as a member to the society after passing her Tap Teacher qualification, also with distinction.

Kirsty took a break from teaching dance in her mid 20s when she was sitting her Final level of exams for her Chartered Accountancy qualifications, whilst simultaneously renovating her first house.

But then, a few years later, she was welcomed into the Starlight family after meeting Becky on a dance floor in Love Train…. it was Love at first sight as we ‘joined hands’, she proved she was the ‘dancing queen’ and she ‘inferno’d my ‘(Night) fever’ for dance once again. The rest as they say… is history.

Kirsty now teaches the senior Tap classes at Starlight dance school, covering complex rhythms and steps in a friendly and relaxed class. She also occasionally covers classes for Becky with the upmost of energy and fun.

AIMEE – INSTRUCTOR

“Starlight is like one big family. We all want eachother to suceed and that sets us apart.”

Aimee has been dancing from a young age and went onto join the Starlight family when she was 14 years old. She became a TA soon after, assisting in street jazz and lyrical classes. Coming from an acrobatics background, she was always eager to teach acro and has since completed her certification with Acrobatic Arts in spring 2019.  Aimee is a energetic and bubbly member of the Starlight family and her main aim is to encourage her dancers whilst remaining fun and lively throughout her classes.

“I love being a member of the Starlight family. We have such a close bond with all of our dancers, it’s amazing to watch their dancing abilities develop”

NIAMH – INSTRUCTOR

“Starlight gave me the confience I needed when I was younger.”

Niamh began dancing at the age of 7 during after-school dance classes in Sale with Becky, as a fun way to pass time with friends. As a result of the dedication and support from Becky during these lessons,  Niamh then became a member of the Starlight family. From the age of 12 she began to assist in classes and show rehearsals, encouraging and training other students. Although a lover of all styles, Niamh’s favourite style is street jazz and you will mostly find her assisting in these classes. Niamh has had the opportunity to perform at locations such as Saddlers Wells and The Palace Theatre, and has also competed with Starlight gaining 1st place trophies!

Niamh is currently studying Law at the University of Nottingham, yet has continued her winning streak earning three 1st place trophies with the university dance team in the 19/20 season. Niamh is a dedicated member of the Starlight family, and will always be a friendly face. As both a student and a teacher she wishes to ensure that dancers are pushed to work to their fullest potential whilst having fun and making memories!

“Dancing at Starlight gave me the confidence and passion I needed as a young girl, and my goal is to do the same for my dancers.”

KATIE – INSTRUCTOR

“Steps make the dance, but passion makes you a dancer”

Katie started dancing with Becky at “Funky Dance” in Sale when she was eight years old. At Starlight, she performed in many shows and competitions including the Palace Theatre. She became a TA when she was thirteen, assisting in after school dance classes and then went onto assisting street jazz and lyrical classes. On the run up to show days, you would often find Katie saying “smile” and encouraging the dancers to have fun. Katie is currently studying BA Primary Education at Durham University and is in her second year. She often comes back and visits as she just can’t stay away!

“Starlight is like a family to me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Teaching is a huge passion of mine as I love to see the children grow more confident in their abilities and become better dancers”.

ZACKY – MASCOT

“Woof, woof, woof”

Zacky is the official Starlight mascot. He has been to several show rehearsals, and helped the dancers warm up by running around the studio with them. He has made friends with lots of our dancers and their dogs, and is always very supportive behind the scenes and in class. During lockdown, he helped keep some of our dancers keep fit and healthy by taking them for walks.
